In the small town of Arraial d'Ajuda in the northeastern state of Bahia, Brazil, Mestre Railson do Carmo Domingues started Capoeira Sul da Bahia. Mestre Railson trained under Mestre Mão Branca of Capoeira Gerais, who encouraged him to form Sul da Bahia. There are now branches of Capoeira Sul da Bahia in four continents and over 14 countries all over the world. In San Francisco, the group is lead by Professor Salê, who grew up in Arraial as part of the Sul da Bahia family, training from a young age with Mestre Railson.
